Love on a budget, how to survive Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day will be here soon.

Does the sound of those words bring thoughts of love and romance or do you cringe and cover your wallet?

If love and money need to strike a balance in your household, then here are a few budget ideas to share with your special someone.

Don't ignore the holiday, even though we all know it has that commerialized media push.

You can still show your love without breaking the bank.

1. Flowers smell sweet but roses are expensive.

Try an arrangement of red tulips or perhaps a more practical idea to plant a rose bush so you both can enjoy the buds together. We are fortunate that our warm San Antonio weather will permit outdoor plantings very soon.

2. Dinner and a movie.

Nice, but you can that substitute that expensive dinner by offering to plan a meal that you can cook together and set a romantic table with candles. Then keep the romance going with a movie selection to watch from home.

3. Exotic travel.

Scale back to a weekend trip or set a date to explore the city together. Take a walk through the San Antonio Botanical Gardens or plan a drive to the Hill Country and select a local winery to visit and sample.

So be creative and keep it romantic and personal but hold back the budget breaking events. And most of all enjoy that special someone you are with.
