Richmond-area fiction lovers will be love starved when we lose Creatures ‘n Crooks Bookshoppe, the area’s only mystery, science fiction, fantasy and horror specialty bookstore located at 3156 West Cary Street in Cary Court. Before they close their doors the end of September, Creatures ‘n Crooks will host “Authors Galore” multi-author booksigning event on Saturday, September 12 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Many of your favorite authors will be available to sign books and discuss their works.
Creatures ‘n Crooks has a huge sale going on, so stop by and enjoy the savings as well as good book chat.
As a fond farewell, I know many authors and customers have great memories of Lelia Taylor the owner, the great knowledgeable staff, and Hamilton the bookstore cat, that you’ve love to share. Like passing a birthday card around at the office, I invite you to comment on this article with your best memories of Creatures ‘n Crooks Bookshoppe and forward the article to others to add their memories also.
Can you feel the love? Or was that just a shiver from all the mysteries?

Richmond won't be the same without Lelia, C&C, and our dear fur-friend, Hamilton. A signing in Cary was always a treat. I always contrived to come early so I could shop in the funky neighborhood shops and savor moule frites at nearby Can Can Brasserie. I'm in mourning.
Richmond is truly losing a treasure with the forthcoming closure of Creatures n Crooks Bookshoppe. Lelia Taylor and her staff are the consummate booksellers, and, like all great book people, their passion for the books they read is infectious. Since the publication of my first novel in 2001, Lelia has been a trusted friend and valuable resource who has recommended my books to countless customers, and for that I will be eternally grateful. Who can forget her store cat Hamiltons priceless reaction the first time we brought a hawk into Creatures n Crooks? That Lelia, a cat lover, has managed to embrace even a bird lover like myself speaks volumes about her heart. Someone should make her mayor.
Richmond, no, Virginia, will lose a wonderful bookstore and a super owner when this place closes its doors on September 30th.
I stared out as a reader, when they were in the Steinmart Shopping Center on Midlothian Turnpike. Lelia has always made great suggestions on books to read and stared a great reading group for SF/fantasy/horror that I always tried to attend.
She was the first bookstore to have Haunted Richmond, Virginia on its shelves!
My husband and I will forever be indebted to Creatures&Crooks Bookshop. We are both writers and got married there!!
RIP C&C.
