Love is in the air (and the bath tubs) on a Caribbean mountain

You'd expect one of the world's most romantic resorts to do something special for Valentine's Day, and it is! Perched on a mountain top on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, the Jade Mountain resort this year is offering three “intoxicating experiences for lovers.”

One is a special in-room “Alchemy for Two” treatment designed to encourage lovers to “reconnect their energies.” The treatment starts with a soothing bath infused with male and female elixir oils, during which the couple reads poetry to each other and swaps exotic snacks.

Next comes synchronized side-by-side massages climaxed with warmed oil anointments on the couples' energy gateways.

And of course no romantic interlude would be complete without a serving of handcrafted Jade Mountain chocolates.

The second Valentine special features massage lessons by a spa therapist and the third a deluxe manicure and pedicure with warm therapeutic paraffin wax. The session sends with a glass of champagne on the house.

Keep in mind the romantic treatments and sessions are in-room – meaning one of the resort's 24 “sanctuary” suites, each looking out at two half-mile-high volcanic peaks straight off the travel posters. A missing wall makes sure guests get an unobstructed view of the peaks.

Among other highlights of the sanctuaries, each has its own colorfully tiled infinity pool running through the room to what looks like the edge of a waterfall a little outside the missing wall.

Owner/architect Nick Troubetzkoy says the resort “blends the sea and the reefs, the foliage and the flowers, the night perfumes and the stunning view of the peaks into a spectacular vacation experience.”

Getting there: More than a dozen airlines serve St. Lucia. Passengers can fly nonstop to the island from major gateways such as Miami, Atlanta, New York-JFK and Toronto.
