“Love Boat” captain aka: Gavin MacLeod gets his star on Palm Springs sidewalk

Fans of the “The Love Boat”—the popular, long-running TV series that propelled the cruise industry to new heights-- might enjoy meeting the man who played captain of the fantasy ship, Merrill Stubing. The personable, outgoing, Gavin MacCleod, who portrayed the commodore on the uber popular show for 16 years, will be honored with a Golden Palm Star on the The Palm Springs Walk of Stars on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 11 a.m. at 102 N. Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs during the 360th Star Dedication ceremony.

For sixteen years, millions of Americans welcomed Gavin MacLeod into their living rooms every Saturday night, first as the endearing everyman, Murray Slaughter of The Mary Tyler Moore Show and notably as the leading, lovable father figure, Captain Merrill Stubing of The Love Boat.

Also on the agenda are guest speakers Kaye Ballard, Carol Channing, Nancy Sinatra, Jr., Joyce Bulifant, Julie Benson, vice president of public relations for Princess Cruises and Grammy-award winner, Jack Jones, who sang the famous “Love Boat” theme song.

Gavin MacLeod will appear at the Just Fabulous Bookstore at 515 N. Palm Canyon Drive from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 1, where he will sign his new book and memoir, “This is your Captain Speaking: My Fantastic Voyage through Hollywood, Faith & Life.”

Show business Honorees must have made an impact worldwide in the area of show business.
