Love and Theft: The country music you should be listening to

This year has been great for emerging artists in country music. It seems every time the radio is turned on there’s a new artist singing a great new song that’s taking over the airways. Love and Theft was no exception.

With “Runaway,” their first single, at 20 in the Billboard country music charts they’re definitely starting strong. The trio, made up of Brian Bandas, Stephen Barker Liles and Eric Gunderson, was formed in 2006 and was part of Taylor Swift’s 2008 tour. There’s even speculation that Stephen is the subject of Swift’s song “Hey Stephen.” Decipher the code in Taylor’s lyric sheet with her CD and it even spells out “Love and Theft.” It’s not a bad way to make your mark.

While Love and Theft may not possess the traditional country sound of other artists, it can’t be denied the trio has talent and one listen to “Runaway,” and “Can’t Go Back,” takes away any doubt of them as a country band.

“Runaway” can certainly make any listener want to roll down the windows and dance along but after listening to their Myspace page “Can’t Go Back” has become a new favorite. Alas, fans of the band will have to wait until August 25 to own a copy of the CD but it seems that the wait will be well worth it.
