What better place to get horizontal than in some of LA's plushest pool environments? I took the plunge and rounded up some of the best hotels at which to rock a bikini like a rock star:
The Standard (Downtown): The site of countless music video, TV, and film shoots (we’re talking to you, Turtle and Johnny Drama!), The Standard offers one of the most breathtaking panoramic vista points in town. Just ask Travel + Leisure, which hailed it one of the world’s “Top 10 Hotel Swimming Pool Views.” Of course, the view on deck isn’t too shabby, either—this is where the beautiful people congregate to lounge on vibrating waterbed pods, sip mojitos, and take in all that glitters.
Shangri-La (Santa Monica): This institution of art deco has a plum location right on the Pacific, which makes poolside lounging even more picturesque. Breathe in the beachy air from the comfort of a striped lounge chair aside this secluded courtyard pool, and enjoy eats and cocktail treats from the new-ish rooftop joint, Suite 700. During the summer, be sure to hit the Shangri-La for “Ditch Day Fridays,” serving up live DJ spins, $5 drinks, and fab finger foods.
Hollywood Roosevelt (Hollywood): As a perennial favorite with paparazzi princesses, it’s no secret that the Hollywood Roosevelt pool is made for those who love their time in the sun. By day, soak in the scene, sips, and sights, which include a legendary underwater mural by British artist David Hockney; by night, witness the velvet rope action as clubbers vie for a coveted spot inside the poolside Tropicana Bar.
Sunset Marquis (WeHo): Ever wanted to make like an A-lister and hole away in one of LA’s most elite bungalows? You’ll feel like you’re doing just that at the chic Sunset Marquis, nestled in a surprisingly quiet West Hollywood neighborhood just off Sunset. Take your pick between the serenity of a private cabana at the upper pool or the more scene-y vibe at the downstairs pool near the hotel restaurant, which serves up “California casual” cuisine. And afterwards, retreat to the on-site spa for its signature “Unsmogging” treatment—you just might need it after all that sunnin’ and funnin’.
