This past Saturday, fashionistas (and even a few men) came out to Rock the Race: A Kentucky Derby Bash, in great numbers. This was an afternoon of fun, food and fillies at Passion Nightclub at Seminole Paradise.
Even those that didn't bring a hat where in luck--there was a hat making station where you could design a one of a kind creation. This area had glitter, ribbons, crystals, etc. and many a masterpiece was born there. Once you had your headgear, there was a buffet of scrumptious goodies laid out for the crowd. And after filling your plate, the bar beckoned, offering complimentary mint juleps and other race worthy concoctions.
Students from the fashion design department of the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale stages a derby hat fashion show, showing off hats that were over the top! Finally, we all watched a live simulcast of the Kentucky Derby on big screens all around the room.
The silent auction items included jewelry, getaways, original Ann Storck Center artwork, and (lest we forget that we were at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino) guitars, among other things. The event was to benefit the Ann Storck Center in Fort Lauderdale, which does terrific work with those in our society who have developmental disabilities.
