It's getting dark earlier, and that cuts into the time you have to get out & enjoy the water during the week. But it doesn't have to eliminate it. Just plan better and stay closer to home. And while air temperatures fluctuate this time of year, water temperature can stay high enough to enjoy water sports into October if the ambient temperature is cooperating.
If you usually avoid the river, fall is a great time to get reacquainted with it. The crowds are down on the water and the ramps. If you work in Louisville, you can’t beat the river’s location! Even if you can’t trailer your boat to work with you or leave work a little early, you can still have plenty of time after work to pick it up and get to one of the city’s free ramps.
If the river’s not for you, Taylorsville Lake is only 20 minutes from the Snyder. On nice summer weekends Taylorsville Lake does get a little crowded, but its perfect for a nice after-work ride during the week. And as an added bonus you can fill up your boat and hauler once you’re outside of Jefferson County and save on gas.
To make the most of your time, do as much packing and prep as you can the night before and be sure boat and hauler are good on gas. If you can’t bring your boat to work with you but you have another way to work, maybe you can hitch your boat up the night before to save time.
Spring is a long way off. Make the most of the rest of the year!
