Johnson, ranked the 62nd best senior by ESPN Recruiting Nation, joins five-star guards JaQuan Lyle and Shaqquan Aaron in the Cardinals’ 2014 recruiting class.
The Ypsilanti, Mich. native made an unofficial visit to Louisville over the summer, he’ll make his official visit in two weeks. Johnson cancelled all other official visits.
Johnson is expected to provide Louisville with frontcourt depth next season as they will lose senior Stephan Van Treese and could potentially see underclassmen Montrezl Harrell and Chane Behanan leave for the NBA.
Johnson is athletic, possesses a high motor, and has good skills. He is versatile, has high basketball IQ and can run the floor. .Johnson also has a soft touch around the rim and a nice jump hook. In addition, Johnson is a good passer and a good defender.
Johnson averaged 13.8 points and eight rebounds last season.
Johnson chose Louisville over Iowa State, Michigan State, Florida State and Oregon.
Pitino would like to add one or two more big men to the 2014 class. Louisville has offered scholarships to several big men including Trey Lyles (Indianapolis, Ind./Arsenal Tech), Cliff Alexander (Chicago, Ill./Curie) , Myles Turner (Bedford, Texas/Trinity), Elbert Robinson (Garland, Texas/Lakeview Centennial). They also are condering Chinanu Onuaku (Upper Marlboro, Md./ Riverdale Baptist), Khadeem Lattin (Houston, Texas/Redemption Christian Homeschool Academy), Jackson Davis (Lexington, Ky./Lafayette), Idrissa Diallo (Los Angeles, Calif./Cathedral) and Cinmeon Bowers (Chipola College). Onuaku and Lyles made official campus visits recently.
