The city is creating a new series of four running races each year – the KentuckyOne Health Four De Lis Classic Series – that Mayor Greg Fischer said are designed to make Louisville an even stronger road racing city and a healthier community.

The first of the new runs will be held 8 a.m. on Memorial Day, May 27 at Waterfront Park, prior to the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Subway Hike, Bike & Paddle. The 5K course will start on the Great Lawn and continue along paths through Waterfront Park.

“With our Triple Crown races in early spring, followed by the Derby Festival miniMarathon and Marathon and many others, Louisville already has a strong national reputation as a top running city,” Fischer said. “These new, shorter runs will help keep existing competitors in shape throughout the year and also attract new runners. It all leads to a healthier city.”

Three of the four races will be 5K, or 3.1 miles long, a fourth will be run on a 10K course. KentuckyOne Health is the title sponsor of the new running series.

“KentuckyOne Health is proud to again support the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown,” said Allen Montgomery, senior vice president of Community Health and Advocacy for KentuckyOne Health. “As the largest health care system in Kentucky, the KentuckyOne Health Four de Lis Classics is one more way we can help fulfill our mission by promoting health and wellness. Making exercise more accessible and year-round to our community with this series of events makes exercise more fun and a family event.”
