Looking for inspiration to kick your creative juices in the behind while staying in the Louisville, Kentucky area? Here are a few ideas of what to do.
If an escape from housework, pets, and family is what you need, why not try a local bed and breakfast? There are several in the area that will let you get away while staying close enough for emergencies. Bashford Manor is a 1796 National Historic Landmark. In addition to hosting Abe Lincoln, it was a Thoroughbred farm, home to several Kentucky Derby winners and winner of 2010 Historic Preservation Award. With a giant porch that overlooks the grounds, how can you not find inspiration?
Another wonderful B&B is the Tucker House. It has been there for over 160 years and sits on five lovely acres with woods, gardens, and a spring-fed lake.
Then, of course, there is the Inn at Woodhaven. It is an historic Gothic Revival Mansion built in1853 from a design by 19th century architect A.J. Downing. Each house features 14 ft. ceilings, diamond paned windows, arched doors, and breathtaking woodwork. Each room is furnished with period antiques, and reproductions to take you back and set your scene indoors!
If you need time with nature, take a ride on a paddleboat aboard the Belle of Louisville. Imagine yourself floating along with Tom Sawyer only you are on the Ohio River instead.
You can also pack a picnic lunch and visit a park. If you want the river view, Waterfront Park is the place to be. Alternatively, you can take a hike through Iroquois Park and see downtown from a high vantage point or plod through the forest on the Jefferson County Forest Trail.
Inspiration abounds right in our own back yards. All we have to do is know where to look.
