Louisville free public library receives grant to add more computers

The federal Broadband Technology Opportunities Program, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 has granted a $743,000 stimulus package to increase computer Internet usage throughout the Louisville Free Public Libraries 18 locations. Democratic Kentucky representative, John Yarmounth announced that together with a additional Library Foundation grant, the total grant received for the Library computer project will total $1.2 million.


The project will not only expand the number of computers available for Internet access, but will help expand the libraries job training and educational resources opportunities.


There are estimated 3,700 current libraries users daily using 524 computer everyday.


The computers will be installed with increased bandwidth over the next 14 months beginning this Fall 2010.
