Louisville Dog Run Association offers five off-leash dog parks

Letting your dog get out and stretch its legs is an essential part of its care. For the most part your dog can get enough exercise and stimulation in your backyard, but even that can get boring. Going to the park is always fun, but with the Kentucky leash law, that too has its limitations. Luckily, if you live in or are willing to travel to Louisville, there are off-leash dog parks available to you for a small yearly fee. Let's take a look at how you can take advantage of these great dog parks.

The Louisville Dog Run Association

The Louisville Dog Run Association offers its members access to five great off-leash dog parks in the Louisville area. For just $30 for the first dog, $20 for the second dog, $10 for the third dog, and $5 for each additional dog in your household, you and your furry friends can take advantage of all these great dog parks. There are 14 rules for these parks which include but aren't limited to:

  • “Dogs under four months of age are not permitted in the dog park. This is for their own safety, as puppies under four months old usually do not have fully developed immune systems and have not completed a full program of vaccinations.”
  • “All dogs must have current Rabies, Distemper, Parvo, and Bordetella (Kennel Cough) vaccinations. A Rabies tag must be worn and displayed by all dogs at all times. It is also recommended that dogs be on a flea and heart-worm preventative medication.”
  • “Dog owners or handlers shall not have more than three dogs in the dog park at one time. All dogs shall be accompanied and supervised by an adult owner or handler at all times. Dog owners or handlers shall remove their dog(s) at the first sign of aggressive behavior.”

The five dog parks in the Louisville Dog Run Association are spread around the Louisville Metro area. As a member you will be able to frequent any or all of these parks, but you must choose your “home park” when applying. You can find these parks at the following locations.

If you are interested joining the Louisville Dog Run Association you will need to fill out an application and return it along with each dog's current vaccination and registration records to the Louisville Dog Run Association.
