Gigi's Cupcakes, 1977 Hurstborne Pkwy. (502) 499-4998 What started out as a small cupcake store started by a woman on a mission has become a popular southern franchise that is quickly growing in size and in fans. Gigi's cupcakes are huge. They are bigger than regular cupcakes and at $3.00 a piece worth the price because of the size. The presentation and the frosting on each cupcake is beautiful. They appear on the menu like tiny towers of elegant temptation and look as pretty as the picture when you get them. They have frosting that is swirled high like an ice cream cone. Some are topped with treats like sprinkles, sugar babies, white chocolate hearts, gummy worms, candied fruit, fondant shapes and more. The “Merry Margarita” has tequila in the mix and sweet and sour in the frosting. The “Champagne” has edible pearls on top of it and its made with sparkling grape juice! You just have to try one to be hooked. http://www.gigiscupcakesusa.com/louisvillekentucky
The Cupcake Shoppe, 3701 Lexington Rd #5 (502) 899-2970 This is a small, hometown store with a huge window front to showcase the bakers and the “almost too pretty to eat” cupcakes on silver serving trays. These cupcakes taste like someone stayed up all night, hand sifted the flour, added fresh fruit, care and love into every one, just for you. The “Red Ville-Vet” (a play on louis“ville”) has chocolate chips in the mix and the cream cheese frosting makes you want to dive in and eat your way out. The Salted Caramel and The Blondie melt in your mouth. This generous store also donates leftover cupcakes to local charities and food banks which makes them taste even sweeter. They are even available for delivery by Nanz and Kraft Florists! www.louisvillecupcakes.com/
Carmen's Cupcakes has two locations. One is 10616 Meeting Street in Prospect, Norton Commons (502)365-4252, and a brand new location in the highlands: 1401 Bardstown Road (502) 459-4239. It is absolutely nut free to help allergy sufferers. Plus, it offers Lil' Chef parties so children can make their own cupcakes with their friends and take some back with them. (pure genious, let the kids play in the sugar and then send them home) With 180 unique flavors with names like the "Michael Jackson" and the "Pancakes and Bacon", there is even a whole menu of cupcakes based on cocktail drinks! The frosting is like a whipped cream, not too sweet, and tastes delicious. The cakes are moist but light as air and lip smacking good. The Bardstown Rd. store sells out frequently so get there early to pick yours up and enjoy. www.carmenscupcakes.com/
Carmanda's Bake Shop, 12003 Shelbyville Rd. in Middletown, is located next to Havana Rumba restaurant.(502) 254-7900 These cupcakes are small to medium in size. The White Chocolate Raspberry with the white chocloate chips is wonderful. It was a lot easier to find when it was located inside the St. Matthews Mall but still worth the trip if you are looking for cupcakes on a higher level than the grocery store. caramandas.com
