With the snow and cold weather making everyone a bit leery this time of year, it's only fitting that we look ahead to the upcoming spring and summer seasons. Here in Louisville, this means more time at local beer gardens and patio bars, not to mention a few strolls through the highlands.

Baseball fans in Louisville can also welcome back the Louisville Bats, as the team's home schedule will begin in less than two months, on April 14th. Manager Rick Sweet and his Louisville club looks to continue their recent success, as they have captured two straight International League West divisional crowns, and four division titles since 2001. This past season, the Bats layed the smackdown all year long, finishing the regular season with the best record in the league (84-58).

On Wednesday, April 14th the Bats will begin their 2010 season at Slugger Field when they take on one of their oldest rivals, the Indianapolis Indians. Fans searching for a freebie may want to check out opening night at the ballpark, as each patron will receive a free Bats' schedule refrigerator magnet.

It's pretty sweet that the team's first home stand is right in the thick of derby season, as the Bats will host a game on the Saturday of Thunder Over Louisville (April 17th). Fans who come to the 2:05PM game against Columbus can stay at the stadium and watch the fireworks over the river once nightfall hits.

Other holidays through the summer that boast home games include a Mother's Day date on May 9th against Rochester, as well as a Labor Day game on September 6th against Indy. While the Bats don't have a home game on Independence Day, there is a July 3rd game at Slugger Field, allowing fans to get a head start on the holiday celebrations.

Virtually all of the promotions that fans enjoyed last year will return in 2010, including everyone's favorie, the $1 Budweiser special on Thursday nights from 5:30PM until first pitch at 7:05. Slugger Field will also be open for 12 Saturday home games, and these dates typically feature some unique national promotional tours that have yet to be announced. Several Friday night home games are also on the docket, and any Friday night tilt also means post-game fireworks. After all Sunday games, kids can come onto the field and run the bases for free. Unfortunately, Bats management is not kosher with those over the age of 12 testing their speed and sliding skills.

This will be the 11th season that the Louisville franchise has served as the triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. Tickets can be purchased at the Bats' box office or by calling (502) 212-2287.
