Louisiana unemployment insurance claims up for week ending May 3

Initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending May 3, 2014, increased to 2,273 from the previous week’s total of 2,238. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending May 4, 2013, figure of 2,466.

The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 2,231 from the previous week’s average of 2,188.

Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending May 3, 2014, increased to 18,926 from the previous week’s total of 18,921. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable week ending May 4, 2013, figure of 23,010.

The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed decreased to 18,994 from the previous week’s average of 19,095.

The total number of people who filed a claim for regular unemployment insurance in Louisiana, and received at least one check during the reference month, decreased to 18,232 in April 2014, down 1,544 from 19,776 in March 2014. This is the lowest level since November 2007 when 17,675 claimants received at least one check during the month.
