The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra proudly welcomes Louis Langrée as the new music director of the for 2013-14 season with his Inaugural Concerts November 8-10 2013. These concerts will feature works by Jennifer Higdon, Copland and Beethoven.
These musical selections honor the fine traditions Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra past, present, and moving forward to the future. Mr. Langrée stated in regard to the Inaugural Music, “We celebrate the tradition of performing great masterworks in Cincinnati with Beethoven. We celebrate the introduction of exciting new works that have become mainstays of the orchestral repertoire in Lincoln Portrait, and we continue that tradition by performing the Cincinnati premiere of a CSO co-commission with On a Wire. This exciting program represents the CSO’s incredible legacy and ongoing journey.”
Dr. Maya Angelou award winning author, poet, historian, actress, playwright, and director will narrative the words of Abraham Lincoln during the performance of Lincoln’s Portrait. There will be a photochoregraphy during Lincoln’s Portrait in which hundreds of images of the Civil War and the former president will be projected onto an 440-square foot three panel panoramic screen above the Orchestra. This process is an innovative art form blends that music with visual images to creative a memorable symphonic experience.
Pulitzer Prize winning composer Jennifer Higdon theatrical “On a Wire” was co-commission by the Orchestra. She will perform with Grammy-winning ensemble called Eighth Blackbird. They have been called super-musicians the combine the best of many talents including: boldness, audacity and high energy.
Beethoven one of classical music most popular works of all time and will be a great musical selection for this concert venue.
