Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-TX) has once again revealed himself to be severely reality-impaired.
Back in January, Gohmert had already provided one of the most ludicrous defenses of the Tea Party's policy of inaction on gun violence when he stated that the term "assault weapon" could be applied to a hammer, and specifically claimed to have seen an article (uncredited, as is customary for Gohmert) about "the massive number that are killed with hammers."
This week, Gohmert blew that remarkable gem of stupidity right out of the water, with an assessment that gun control was directly related to bestiality.
On the possibility of limiting gun magazines to ten rounds, Gohmert said "Once you make it 10, then why would you draw the line at 10? What’s wrong with nine? Or 11? And the problem is once you draw that limit, it’s kind of like marriage when you say it’s not a man and a woman anymore, then why not have three men and one woman, or four women and one man, or why not somebody has a love for an animal?"
Ignoring the fact that that Gohmert is arguing in favor of not limiting one thing by citing his imaginary need to limit another thing, why was Gohmert so quick to drag bestiality into the discussion?
This kind of leap in logic -- the eagerness to compare gun safety to depraved sexual acts -- should trouble everyone, even more so coming from a member of a political party that is notorious for its members constantly getting caught doing the very things they'd previously been known for harping about.
