Louie B. and the Pro bass angler

“What a great weekend on the pond. I started out helping a good friend get his mind wrapped around spotted bass and off largemouth bass, in preparation for the FLW Tour on Lewis Smith Lake, hoping our spots would have similar thinking to those in Alabama. We found the jerkbait to be very strong early this week and had a great jig bite going. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday we boated twenty pounds each day, including a couple of big stripers on jerkbaits and fish heads.” (see slideshow)

Kentucky Doc and trophy spot

“On Friday, returning client Dr. Ted Q. from Lexington, Kentucky came down for another two-day trip in search of a trophy spot. What a great day as our best five weighed 22 pounds and five ounces; Ted boated two spots over five pounds both weighing 5.3 pounds on Friday. Congratulations to Ted getting the five pounds plus he’s been looking for, not just once but twice.”

“Ted and I decided on Saturday rather than just doing a trip we’d jump in the tourney too since it was just he and I, and we’re basically fishing the same hours. We decided to fish down lake and stay with the jerkbait the entire day. We slowly put ten fish in the boat that weighed 16.70. Fun day, and we did what we thought would get us the five pound plus bites just like Friday. It just didn’t happen on Saturday, our smallest fish was three pounds and our biggest fish was 3.5. No big bites. Spro McStick 110 Jerkbaits and Davis Underspins tipped with Big Bite Cane Thumpers were my “go to” baits most of the week, along with a good jig bite from 15-30 ft. on 3/8 ounce Spotsticker hand-ties.”

Sunday, Sunday rounding out the weekend

“Today I fished with my long time clients Ron and patty for stripers. We boated six stripers and twelve spots by 2:30 PM. Great day but it was very cold and windy. Let me tell you these two are troopers. The majority of stripers are still very deep, and ours today were 50-60 feet on the bottom around drop offs near bait. Earlier in the week when the weather was warmer we caught some, about twenty on jerkbait up in the shallows with the spotted bass. Thanks again for the support. Good luck on the water.”
