The legendary singer-songwriter, also an accomplished actor who has appeared in films directed by Martin Scorsese, Judd Apatow, Tim Burton and Cameron Crowe, merges material from his 2012 album Older Than My Old Man Now with new songs and the writings of his late father, the esteemed Life Magazine columnist Loudon Wainwright Jr.
“It’s a posthumous collaboration,” says Wainwright. “The focus of the piece is on fatherhood--being a father and having one. It also explores the issues of birth, self-identity, loss, mortality, fashion--and pet ownership.”
Surviving Twin is directed by PlayMakers' producing artistic director Joseph Haj. Each performance will be followed by an audience discussion with Wainwright.
The show is a presentation of PlayMakers. Hailed as one of America’s leading theater companies, PlayMakers is the professional theater-in-residence at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
