This afternoon I had the awesome opportunity of speaking with the really sweet dudes from Rivers Monroe. They just played a packed show this past weekend at the Radio 104.5 Winter Jam featuring fun, and New Found Glory. The energy from the crowd was amazing! But, I wanted to take it back a little and get to know them a little better...
EX: Where did the name Rivers Monroe come from?
RM: Mat (vocals/keys) and I (Mike-lead vocals) started writing together, it actually came together from our last names, Mat Rivers and Mike Monroe. We're fans of 80s music, like Hall & Oates.
EX: Where are you guys from?
RM: Matt was born in TX, but grew up Missouri, and came out here to pursue music. Kirby (bass) is from Cherry Hill, Dan (drums) is from Doylestown, and Doc (lead guitar) is from Princeton.
EX: What are your musical inspirations?
RM: Mike (Jimmy Eat Word,Blink-182) Dan is a big pop punk fan, his favorite band is New Found Glory. When he found out that we were opening for them, he pretty much freaked out. Kirby and Mat listening to a little bit of everything. We all have different tastes, and we like alot of different music.
EX: What is your favorite song to perform live?
RM: Mike: "Radio" & "Girls In The Front Row" Mat: "Don't Stop Now", "Meteors"
EX: What song means the most to you personally?
RM: "Meteors" it was about a relationship that I was going through and talking about the end of it. The problems, fights, it's really relatable.
EX: What would be your dream tour?
RM: Boys Like Girls, 30 Seconds to Mars, Jimmy Eat World, and All Time Low
EX: Any tour stories?
RM: We ran out of gas, and broke down in VA. Some of the cooler things were that we've played NASCAR, we had a killer time in Nashville, TN, we love meeting people, and traveling.
EX: What are some of your favorite venues?
RM: TLA, The Troc, and World Cafe Live
EX: One thing your fans don't know about you?
RM: Mike: I'm always late, Kirby: plays alot of video games, Mat's nickname is "Napster" because he takes two hour naps daily, he's also a professional artist. Doc actually has his PhD, and Dan has the most tattoos
EX: Would win in a fight? Batman or Wolverine...
RM: Wolverine, because if he backs Batman into a corner, he's screwed.
EX: Any word on an upcoming album?
RM: We're going to be re-recording our latest album, Meteors, it's a 12-14 song album where we'll be adding some original music, and some new tunes.We're looking to have it released by the Spring. We're also going to be releasing 6-8 song EP at the end of the year.
EX: Any plans for a new tour?
RM: We have some local shows coming in February, we might also have Spring tour in the works.
EX: Describe yourself in three words
RM: Mike: Ambitious. Awesome. Anti-Punctual. ( I think I just made up that word!)
