Lou Myers dies: 'Different World' actor to receive military funeral

Lou Myers dies at the age of 77. The "Different World" actor served in the United States Army; he will receive a military funeral in West Virginia, according to TMZ. Myers passed away at Charleston Medical Center on Feb. 19, 2013.

The President of Lou's non-profit organization confirmed to TMZ that Lou Myers died following a heart-related emergency.

The NAACP Image Award-winning actor suffered a string of health issues beginning in December when he was admitted to the hospital for pneumonia. He left the hospital in early January only to be re-admitted shortly thereafter when he collapsed at his home. Then yesterday Myers went into cardiac arrest. Doctors successfully revived him, but he lapsed into a coma and died. Myers's cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.

Myers is survived by one son and his 95-year-old mother, Dorothy Jeffries.
