The Lotus Elise S1 is a very fast and nimble sports car. The chassis is such a great design, it is being used as a base chassis sold to other auto manufacturers to produce new vehicles. The Dodge Circuit, a new electric drive sports car, is based on the Lotus Elise chassis. Even though the Lotus Elise appears extra tiny, it packs a big bang for the buck. They always say the best things come in small packages, let it be known that the Elise is one of them. The Lotus Elise is a rear-wheel drive, mid-engine, roadster that was designed in 1994 and released to the public by 1996. It features a hand made fiberglass body that sits on top of an extruded aluminum bonded chassis. This is a great combination for speed, safety, and agility.

The Elise S1 weighs in at only 1,600 lbs! With the ability to zoom from 0 to 60 miles per hour in only 5.8 seconds, the Elise is a nimble and quick little roadster. The powerhouse behind this little sprite is a 1.8 liter inline four cylinder designed by MG Rover. Featuring dual overhead cams, 16 valves, and unique VVC cylinder heads this engine can create 177 horsepower.
By watching the footage below, you can see how the extreme weight advantage of the Lotus Elise helps in navigate through the various predicaments Nurburgring presents. It is not the fastest car out there, but properly modified it can be. Using a turbo forced induction setup, complete engine rebuild, and modified exhaust it would be possible to crank the power rating above 300 horsepower. This would be an amazing package, but unfortunately the model presented below is pretty much stock. Enjoy the riding in the Lotus Elise S1 as it competes against a Ferrari for pole position!
