Lotto winner Marvin Martinez is one lucky man. Martinez discovered a winning lottery ticket worth a million dollars in New York while he was raking leaves after Hurricane Sandy left a huge mess in its wake last November.
The Epoch Times reports Dec. 30 that Martinez, 27, did not originally purchase the Win for Life ticket. He was finally awarded the million dollar prize money a year after finding the ticket. New York Lottery officials cut Martinez his lump sum payment on Friday. The lotto winner got $779,106, but actually received $515,612 after taxes.
Martinez immigrated to the U.S. from El Salvador about six years ago. He works as a landscaper and still lives with his mother in a home damaged from Superstorm Sandy.
Lotto winner Marvin Martinez won a huge amount of money by spotting a lottery ticket blowing in the wind as he raked leaves. Although he won a million dollars, he still plans to work six days a week. As good as the money sounds, a million dollars just does not go as far as it used to!
