Lottery opens today for 2012 ING NYC Marathon

The lottery opens today at 12 p.m. EST for the 2012 ING NYC Marathon, which will take place on Sunday, November 4, 2012 in the five boroughs of New York. 

The lottery will remain open until 11:59 p.m. EST on April 23, 2012. An $11 processing fee for entering the lottery is required of all applicants. This fee will not be refunded if the entrant is not selected for the race.

In addition to the lottery entry option, applicants are able to guarantee entry into the 2012 ING NYC Marathon by running for charity, meeting qualifying times or completing the NYRR 9+1 challenge.  

In 2011, NYRR received 140,000 applications for the 2011 ING NYC Marathon. Only 47,000 runners were selected to run the race.
