Entertainment Weekly revealed on June 5 that "Lost" actor Daniel Dae Kim has been cast in the upcoming film "Insurgent," which is the sequel to the popular dystopian film "Divergent," which opened earlier this year. The story is based on the novel of the same name by author Veronica Roth, and is the second in the trilogy.
Kim will play the role of Jack Kang, a representative from the Candor faction. Candor is the faction based on truth and honesty, which is where Tris and her companions travel after leaving Amity. Candor and Amity, the only two factions not revealed in the first film, are the only two faction remaining in the story.
Kim is most recognizable for his role as Jin in the ABC television drama "Lost," about survivors of a plane crash living on a mysterious island. The South Korean actor appeared on all six seasons of the series, where his character helped the group while learning English from his wife.
The actor has also starred as Chin Ho Kelly in the television remake of "Hawaii Five-0" since the first season. Both shows were filmed in Hawaii, were Kim and his family reside. He has also leant his voice to multiple video games, filmed several movies, and appeared in a dozen television roles.
On June 5 Comingsoon.net posted that the new film will be released theatrical on March 20, 2015. The third book, "Allegiant," will be divided into two films and will be released on March 18, 2016 and March 24, 2017. Robert Schwentke will helm the project, although Neil Burger who directed the first film will serve as executive producer.
The film will bring back Shailene Woodley as Tris, Theo James as Four, Zoe Kravitz as Christina, Jai Courtney as Eric, Miles Teller as Peter, Mehki Phifer as Max, Ansel Elgort as Caleb and Kate Winslet as Jeanine. Other newcomers to the series include Naomi Watts as Evelyn a leader of the Factionless and Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer as Johanna the leader of Amity.
The story will follow Tris, Four, Caleb and the others are they reveal the truth about Erudite, Dauntless and Abnegation to the Amity and Candor factions. The group must go on the run while trying to find a way to stop Jeanine and the news about divergents from changing the future. The book was released in 2012 and filming is currently taking place in Atlanta, which will double for post-apocalyptic Chicago.
