LOST's Cuse tweets "best promo ever"

Screencap from CUATRO's promo for Season 6 of LOST.

LOST’s recent international advertisement for Season 6 has been called the “best promo ever.” This comment caused the folks over at Spain’s CUATRO network to do the happy dance -- because it came from Mr. Carlton Cuse.

The final season has been shrouded in so much secrecy that Darlton has declined to use *any* new footage in its promotions. So how do you build suspense and anticipation with scenes fans can already recite verbatim? You get creative.

CUATRO created their own trailer, making LOST a giant chess game and juxtaposing jungle close-ups with the stark contrast of a black and white chess board. The island characters are portrayed as pieces in the game, moving (or being moved) towards their ultimate destiny.

[The promo] takes iconic scenes from the series, and places them on a chessboard: Ben wakes up on the chessboard wearing a parka; Jack and Locke peer down into a square of the board; Juliet slips from Sawyer's grip and falls down a tunnel in the board ….. And that's not to mention the great voice-over, which reads ‘The wise man said life is a chessboard of nights and days, where men are pawns of God, moved here and there. God allows them to kill, and kills. And piece by piece, he puts them back in the box. Because there's a destiny for every piece, for every player, and for God.’

sl-LOST.com was kind enough to upload and subtitle the video in English.

The New York Post asks why America's pieced-together-from-the-past promos can’t look more like this one, and I tend to agree. Remember England’s great ‘dance promo’ that underscores the character relationships from Season 1?

Come on ABC, show us some love!

Your opinion counts: What do you think of Spain’s promo? Are they on the right track for what lies ahead in Season 6?
