'Lost Mermaid' author doing book signing at Bert's Pine Bay Gallery March 9 (Photos)

Lost Mermaid~A Shem Creek Moonlight Jamboree author Jan DiRuzzo will be on hand to sign copies of her book at Bert’s Pine Bay Gallery from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013. There will also be a guest appearance by her character, Lily the Mermaid, and her favorite pirate sidekick, Captain Joe.

"This mythical tale will enrich your child’s imagination and immerse them in a coastal seascape where they will meet loggerhead turtles, dolphins, fish, oysters, and crabs at a musical jamboree, and learn a valuable lesson about the importance of kindness and the danger of judging others by
appearance or language," states Bert's in the press release announcing the book signing.

In addition to her ongoing love affair with literature and especially fantasy, DiRuzzo has taught writing and literature at both the secondary and college levels, worked as a technical writer for
the Naval Department of Defense, and served as a journalist for her community newspaper. She has always lived near the sea. While kayaking with the dolphins along Shem Creek, she became
inspired by the diversity of life both on and off shore and has woven these themes together to
share with other young readers.
