LOST Easter Egg in FlashForward premier

By now, you all know that the new ABC drama FlashForward has recruited LOST alums Sonya Walger (Penny) and Dominic Monaghan (Charlie) for key roles. It has also been sold as a kind of LOST-equivalent, hoping to score and keep LOST fans when the series ends its six year run in May 2010.

Based on the book by Canadian science-fiction writer Robert J. Sawyer in which every person on Earth blacks out for 2-minutes and 17-seconds, FlashForward has taken some liberties with the premise by necessity. For example, the flash forwards in Sawyer's novel jump 21 years into the future – in the series, they're six months. And new characters have been added, the moral being that if you know how the book ends, don't assume the series will end the same way.

“We’ve learned that we have to write the show in what we keep calling a ‘post-LOST world,’” [Marc Guggenheim, one of the show’s executive producers] said. “We recognize that shows that come after LOST have to basically write for an audience that is really familiar with the clues and the conventions and mythologies that LOST perfected. So it’s kind of like learning to play basketball or joining the NBA once Michael Jordan has been in the game. He changed the game. LOST changed the game. So we’ve just come into the show knowing that the game is changed and we’ve written and produced the show accordingly.”   -Newsarama

Being bred and marketed as the new LOST, FlashForward strives for a higher standard in network programming. If you can’t wait for the premier on Thursday, September 24th, catch the first 17+ minutes here.

So what other ties does FlashForward have in common with LOST? Check out this Easter Egg from the pilot episode:

An Oceanic billboard? Wow. That guy in the passenger seat sure seems interested in what he sees!

Is this a publicity stunt? Or will we see genuine storyline crossovers?  Send me your thoughts and ideas.

Web chatter claims to have found LOST ties to the latest Heroes episode as well.

More FlashForward news:

And speaking of the lovely Sonya Walger, in July she wed screenwriter Davey Holmes in front of 100 guests at an intimate ceremony.

"I got married six weeks ago," Walger, 35, said at the BAFTA LA’s 7th Annual TV Tea Party. "It's just a sweet thing. I haven't got a better word for it. It's an enormous amount of sweetness."

Congratulations to them both.
