Spring is certainly popping up all over the Pacific Northwest as we get closer to Ostara, and we can see that more than just the Pagan community is feeling the change as the animals are feeling it as well. On March 7, 2013 in Oregon City one of the Great Mothers creatures seemed to get a little lost with all of the spring time commotion and required a police escort to get back to where it belonged and out of harms way. In this age of cold technology this is a great reminder of love and compassion that exists within all living things.
It was about 11:30 p.m. when the Oregon City Police Department received the call that a beaver was strolling across Southeast McLoughlin and 14th, moving away from the Willamette River. The beaver had magically made it through the busy traffic of the area but was fairly disoriented and kept walking toward the headlights of near by vehicles. This was a very dangerous situation for one of the Great Mothers creatures.
Once the officers arrived at the scene, they attempted to use a pole with a noose to capture the beaver. However, they were amazed when they quickly found that the animal was actually pretty mellow and had no problem walking with them as they lead it to safety. The beaver and the officers took a 40-minute walk to Abernethy Creek before saying their goodbyes. Hopefully the spring wont get to this beaver again and send it on another journey, but if it does, we know that the Oregon City Police are more than willing to help one of the Great Mothers creatures get to safety.
As all Pagans know, this time of the year is the season of fertility and many animals end up in harms way as they look for their mate. Although its unknown why the beaver crossed the road, we can be sure that we will additional animals wondering into places that could put them in harms way. Hopefully what ever magic protected this beaver when it crossed through traffic will also protect more animals this year and in years to come.
