Lose weight in the kitchen and get fit in the gym

There is a popular belief that the more a person works out the more weight that they will lose, but this is actually not always true. Remember that muscle weighs more than fat, so if you are in the gym working out trying to lose weight while not changing your eating habits, then there is a good chance that you will actually gain weight in the form of muscle. On the opposite side of things, if you only change your eating habits and do not work out then you will lose weight but not tone your body.

Re-evaluating your diet is a great way to jump-start your weight loss. Here are a few ways to help:
1. Eat smaller portions at one time, but eat more servings throughout the day. (six small meals each day)
2. Be sure to eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
3. Eat more whole grain breads and pastas.
4. Make sure to have protein with every meal.
5. Drink ice water throughout the day. (Ice water helps to increase your metabolism)

Once you have lost some weight you will most likely notice that you now have some extra skin that you would like to tighten up. It is now time to hit the gym and start a regular exercise routine. It is important to remember to incorporate weights, cardio and stretching into every workout. Weights will help tone your body, cardio will help strengthen your heart and stretching will help to prevent injuries.

Feeling intimidated? That is perfectly fine, not everybody starts out knowing what to do and what machines to use so do not feel like you cannot ask an employee for help. It may also be a good idea to try a few fitness classes, this will help you meet new gym friends and also introduce you to different and fun ways to get in your exercise.

Wherever you are on your weight loss journey, remember that it takes both diet and exercise to lose weight and get in shape. Don’t give up because your hard work will pay off.
