The first big award ceremony of the year is around the corner! This Sunday January 12, the 71st edition of the Golden Globes will take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. For award ceremony lovers like myself, Oscars are the big deal, our Super Bowl, but the Globes (as we like to call the in the business) are our tailgating! A much more relaxed environment, where our favorite TV and movie actors have fun, and prepare for the big game.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a group of journalists that cover the United States entertainment industry for a variety of outlets in Europe, Asia, Australia, and Central and South America, is in charge of selecting the nominees and winners. Very frequently, the Globe winners get the Oscar statue too, so pay attention if you want to win the Oscar pools. This year “12 Years a Slave”, “American Hustle” and Netflix’s “House of Cards” lead in number of nominations. And there are also important nominations for the Latino artists:

Gustavo Cuarón: the director of the must-see-movie of 2013 Gravity is nominated for “Best Director”.

Oscar Isaac: Guatemalan actor is nominated for “Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy” for his role in the Coen Brother’s film Inside Llewyn Davis.

Sofía Vergara: the super hot Colombian actress is nominated for fifth year in a row for “Best Supporting Actress In A Series, Mini-Series, or TV Movie” for her role as Gloria on TV’s Modern Family. Vergara has never taken the Golden Globe home, so we wish her luck this time. You know what they say, fifth time is the charm…or wasn’t it?

I’ll be watching closely to bring you all the best moments of the red carpet, the ceremony, and the winners. If the ceremony is half as fun as last year’s, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, it will be a great time. ¡Buena suerte a todos!
