The Abbey for WeHo is like Badlands for Castro; it is the one location that all out-of-towners hear about and have to visit. Though the two venues have generated their own reputations, The Abbey combines elements of a restaurant, lounge, and club that give the club boy or girl what they need at any point during their WeHo experience.
A restaurant first and foremost, The Abbey features indoor and outdoor seating to rival huge restaurants such as The Cheesecake Factory and BJ’s. No matter where you look there is seating, whether in the form of tables, couches, booths, or groups of chairs.
Outside there are mostly booths, tables, and chairs. I would imagine outside seating is extremely popular during the hot Southern California summer months; great for lounging with friends and enjoying a meal or a signature $12.00 Abbey Martini. I had the Chocolate Banana Martini and the flavors were amazing. Very refreshing and blended beautifully; I had to order a second.
The interior is mostly couches with several VIP areas for parties. On Saturday, December 26, all of the VIP areas were reserved. One party was actually in full swing and looked to be celebrating a birthday. For those who like to enjoy their drinks while dancing, there is a full dance floor in the back with an adjacent bar.
At The Abbey, you never have to worry about where to get a drink. During my visit, I counted four full bars, each with at least two bartenders mixing drinks. If you are looking for eye candy, stay near the main bar at the entrance. Sexy, hunky gogo boys dance on the bar and on gogo boxes in this area.
The Abbey draws in one of the most mixed crowds I have ever seen. I saw an older man and woman slow dancing on the dance floor, while a lesbian couple was deep in a passionate lip-lock and two beautiful gay gentlemen were sharing a cocktail.
Looking for a snack to take home? The Abbey’s kitchen stays open until 2am or stop by their bakery for something sugary on your way out.
The Abbey has something for everyone and I would highly recommend stopping by if you are in WeHo. There is no cover and you and your friends will enjoy the calm atmosphere.
