Los Angeles Lakers trade rumors now include a host of new names. Among the players popping up in these Los Angeles Lakers trade rumors are Kyle Lowry, Greg Monroe, and Channing Frye. According to a report from NBC Sports on Monday (June 30), the plan of the front office is to begin targeting a number of second tier star players if they are unsuccessful at acquiring LeBron James and/or Carmelo Anthony this offseason.
The plan to lure James and Anthony revolves around the hope of the front office that they want to play with Kobe Bryant. There is no real young talent on this roster, so it would be really contingent on the star players to carry them. That pursuit is not expected to be successful due to the lack of infrastructure and that is why a big list of other players has entered the conversation. It also suggests that a few sign-and-trade deals could be in the near future for the club.
A previous report addressed the situation with Pau Gasol and that there are scenarios where they could bring back the All-Star forward/center through a new free agent contract. Gasol might want to go to another team with a better chance at making it deep into the postseason, though, so unless the these Los Angeles Lakers trade rumors lead to something significant, he is probably gone as well. It might be really tough to replace the rebounding and low post presence that Gasol has had for the team.
Kevin Love is also a player that the Lakers would really love to acquire, but it would be tough to put together a package of assets that the Minnesota Timberwolves would really want. As for the availability of the players mentioned before, they have all been mentioned in trade packages before. Kyle Lowry can be a simple free agent signing, Greg Monroe is a restricted free agent, and Channing Frye just opted out of his deal with the Phoenix Suns. The potential is there that they could all sign deals with the Lakers if the salaries worked out just right.
Expect the Lakers to be very active as soon as free agency is opened on July 1 and that the team will be mentioned when it comes to nearly every big name available through a signing or trade.
