Los Angeles government annual salaries

Los Angeles County consists of 88 cities with over 10 million residents. According to the California Public Records Act the Board of Supervisors and other Los Angeles County elected officials receive an annual budget of $21 million for their staffs. Los Angeles County consists of five supervisors who possess a budget of $3.4 million a year to run their staff. Each County Supervisor receives an annual salary of $178,789 with staff salaries ranging from $36,000 to $200,000. A chief deputy for Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich of the Fifth District receives an annual salary of $201, 179.

Similar to the County of Los Angeles, the City of Los Angeles with over 3.8 million residents possesses an unmanageable budget. For this year alone the total budget spent for the Los Angeles City Council staff and operational costs, such as office and supplies comes out to $20.8 million. The City of Los Angeles consists of 15 council members who each receive an annual salary of $178,978, as well as office budgets up to $1.06 million. Altogether the City Council members employ 260 employees with salaries ranging from $24,736 to $154,486.

Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa has a staff of 206 employees with a $7.4 million budget. Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich has a staff of 6 employees with an $883,000 budget. Due to the economic downturn in the past two years the City of Los Angeles has cut 4,000 employees either through layoffs or early retirements.
