With offers coming in from all over the world, soccer fans waited with baited breath to see where David Beckham would end up for the coming season. The wait is over as Beckham has chosen to re-sign with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The Major League Soccer team made the official announcement on Wednesday. There hasn’t been any official report on Beckham’s contract however it’s rumored to extend his stay for two years and is for $15 million. David Beckham released a statement that said in part, “I’ve seen firsthand how popular soccer is now in the States, and I’m as committed as ever to growing the game here.”
Published reports are also stating that Beckham’s deal with the Galaxy is actually less than one offer he got from the owners of the French club Paris-St. Germain. They are rumored to have offered him a contract for 18 months worth $18.7 million.
Beckham added in his statement that is kids and wife were a big part of his decision to stay in Los Angeles. “This was an important decision for me. My family and I are incredibly happy and settled in America.”
General Manager and head coach Bruce Arena weighed in on Beckham’s decision. “I am thrilled that David has chosen to rejoin the Galaxy, especially as he had numerous options where he could continue his career. I felt that he was one of the best players in all of MLS last season and we could not have achieved the success that we did without him. We look forward to trying to replicate that success this season with David once again in a Galaxy uniform.”
