The Los Angeles Galaxy took on the San Jose Earthquakes as part of the inaugural Central California Cup on the night of Feb. 15. This was the first pre-season match that was open to the public, and what a match it was for all those who made the trip down to Chukchansi Park in Fresno, Ca. Galaxy beat San Jose 2-1 with the help of an amazing goal by Gyasi Zardes.
Marcelo Sarvas made the first goal of the match in the 31st minute. It put the Galaxy on the board and San Jose still had no points. Zardes doubled the score with this amazing goal in the second half. Zardes is still a rookie and has not been able to fully prove his worth. If he continues to shoot this well during the season, then he has nothing to worry about. San Jose eventually eventually answered with one goal in the 67th minute, but were never able to equalise.
The Galaxy and San Jose often face each other during the season, because they are both part of the Western Conference in the MLS. The clubs are bitter rivals and their matches are often called the California Clasico. This is a true rival as both clubs have the same ability and neither club wins every match. It always a great match to watch and fans love to see this rivalry. They are both truly talented clubs.
LA Galaxy's next pre-season match will be a closes-door scrimmage against UCLA.
