Los Angeles Company to Sell Radiation Detection Devices in Japan

Universal Detection Technology (UNDT), a Los Angeles based developer of early-warning monitoring technologies that protect against biological, chemical, and radiological threats, has signed a deal with APP System Services (APP) to market its radiation detection devices in Japan and Singapore.

The demand for such devices is increasing as the fallout from the tsunami-damaged Japanese nuclear plants spreads.

Recent reports indicate that the radiation level in Japan is officially equal to Chernobyl. Representatives of the company that operates Japan's battered nuclear plant say radioactive contamination in groundwater underneath a reactor has been measured at 10,000 times the government health standard. Contaminated water has been pooling at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant since it was damaged by the earthquake and tsunami. It has already leaked into the ocean.

In a recent statement, Jacques Tizabi UNDT's Chairman and CEO says, "APP will use its sales force to market UNDT's radiation detection devices to both the government and private sectors. While there has been a rush by consumers to quickly purchase hand-held dosimeters, most of which are currently in very short supply by us and other suppliers, there continues to be an interest from institutional customers for more sophisticated detection equipment which we hope to be able to provide not necessarily in the immediate present, but throughout the length of this crisis."
