Some of the best songs happen without a lot of effort. That's exactly what happened with Lorde's smash hit "Royals." On Jan. 27, the New York Daily News reported that Lorde's Grammy-winning hit was written when she was just 15-years old.
It is even more surprising that the song took thirty minutes to write and was never intended to even be on the album. The song "Royals" was written as sort of a joke and was originally intended to be a hidden track or a giveaway song. Who would have thought it would land Lorde squarely at the top of the Billboard Top 100?
In October 2013, "Royals" hit the top spot on the Billboard Top 100 and made Lorde the youngest female singer to do that since Tiffany's "I Think We're Alone Now" in in 1987.
Now Lorde can add Grammy winner to her resume. Her super-hit "Royals" won two Grammys on Jan. 26 for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. When her name was called, even she was visibly stunned.
