Lorde is a 17-year-old New Zealand singer-songwriter. Her musical debut was a 2012 EP entitled “The Love Club” and her first single from that EP, "Royals", debuted at number one on the New Zealand Top 40 and eventually reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Her debut album, “Pure Heroine,” was later released in 2013.

Lorde became the first solo female artist to top the Billboard Alternative Songs chart in the United State since in 1996. Her song “Royals” also holds the record for the longest reign by a woman atop the Billboard Alternative Songs chart at seven weeks.

During the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, Lorde received four nominations, in which she won two for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for "Royals."
