One thing the Westboro Baptist Church doesn’t discriminate against is who or what they protest. According to a report by Billboard on March 19, the anti-gay organization has set its attention on the 17-year-old New Zealand singer Lorde.
The group plans to protest the Grammy winning singer during her upcoming concert in Kansas City, Missouri all because WBC wasn’t happy with her criticism of an Australian DJ who implied that there was “something wrong with lesbians.” The criticism and pro gay stance taken by Lorde was just enough to ruffle the feathers of the WBC. In a statement released by the group, they explained their dissatisfaction with music’s new sensation.
“New Zealand came forth with a young lassie that doesn’t have enough sense to put in a thimble. Now the world has elevated her to the status of an idol.”
While the group’s founder, Fred Phelps, is literally on his deathbed, one would think the focus of WBC members would be on his health instead of protesting Lorde, who has already laughed them off and urged her fans to be welcoming to the group and show them some love. In response to the protests, she sent a series of tweets out to her fans.
“Hahaha omb just found out westboro baptist church are going to picket my show in kansas city. Everyone wear rainbow clothing to that show…[and] try to kiss church members who are same sex as you. They will so love it. Christmas comin early in kansas city.”
Lorde has sense deleted the tweets, realizing she gave the Westboro Baptist Church more than enough attention.
