Loop the Lake marks the start of racing season in Des Moines

The 8K Loop the Lake race marks the start of racing season in the Des Moines/Metro area on March 23, 2013.

This flat and fast race at Gray's Lake begins at 8:00 a.m. The event is open to runners of all skill levels, but due to the limited trail size, walkers are prohibited from entering. The race is run on a twelve foot wide, consisting of relatively flat asphalt trail. This race completes two plus loops around the lake.

The children's Little Lakers race, for kids ages 0 – 10, will be held at approximately 9:30 a.m.

Awards will be given to overall 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 1st Masters; plus to the top 3 places in 10-year age groups through age 70+, male and female.

Registration is currently $25 per person, and raises to $35 after March 15, 2013. Capital Striders members receive a $5 discount on registration.

Packet pick-up will take place from 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 22 at Confluence Brewing Company 1235 Thomas Beck Road (Bell Ave) #A and again from 6:30 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23 at Gray's Lake Park.

No parking will be allowed at Gray's Lake on the morning of the race.
