March is International Mirth Month, a time to get rid of the winter doldrums and get ready for the funny month, April. That fourth month of the year not only begins with April Fools’ Day but the entire month has been designated as National Humor Month.
It is also the month when the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor holds its annual conference. Every year the conference is great but this year it is extra special because it will take place in the new Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy in Vincennes, Indiana. The dates are April 3 through April 6.
This year’s conference includes such keynotes as cancer survivor Christine Clifford’s “Humor and Coping with Life’s Little Inconveniences,” David Coleman’s “Love and Laughter,” and coming all the way from Israel, Lenny Ravich will be presenting “Healthy Humor for Happy Hours.”
In addition, there will also be a pre-conference Humor Academy, scientific research poster sessions, and, for the first time, a new curriculum track on therapeutic clowning.
In addition, if you look real carefully you might even find the likes of Jack Benny, George Burns, and Groucho Marx when Brad Zinn presents his nationally acclaimed 90-minute show, “The Great Comedians!”
So, if you are real serious about humor, or if you just want more laughs in your life, head for Indiana whose state slogan is “Restart Your Engines.” How very appropriate…since that is exactly what this conference and humor/laughter can do for you.
