It’s the Great Pumpkin! The Great Pumpkin Festival, that is. Beginning on September 21 and running all the way until October 31, 2013, is Vernon N.J.’s tribute to all things pumpkin. Heralded as the “Largest Fall Festival in Northern New Jersey,” you definitely don’t want to miss this event if you’re an autumn lover.
The festival runs from 10 am to 5 pm Wednesday through Friday at Vernon’s Heaven Hill Farms. Attractions include corn and hay mazes as well as pig and duck races. There will be plenty of pumpkins for the picking, of course, as well. The festival’s family friendly activities also include a scavenger hunt, hayrides, and carnival rides.
On the 27th and 28th of October, Heaven Hill Farms will also host a trick-or-treat trail for young children, which promises to be “non-scary.” It will run from 1 to 4 pm and is safe enough to bring youngsters who might get frightened by the more obvious Halloween events.
If you’re interested in milking a cow, going through a spider web crawl, or just plain picking some great autumn pumpkins, head to Sussex County’s Great Pumpkin Festival. Tickets can be found here.
