Anyone who has been writing for a while knows the joy (and pain) of making New Year’s resolutions for his/her writing career.
It’s actually pretty easy to contemplate how to get better and make promises to do the same. But sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated. Writing can sometimes feel like the easy part – next is finding a place that will love the story and share it with the world.
Writers know that publishing is not writing. Writing is often solitary and safe. Trying to get published means putting your writing out there for possible critique and rejection. Not so easy.
It’s hard to know exactly where to submit stories, essays, and poems once they’ve been written, edited, and polished. Then, edited some more.
Poets & Writers clearly feels the writer’s pain and has created a calendar to inspire motivation. The calendar can be found here. Joining the Poets & Writers mailing list will ensure that reminders of contest deadlines are sent straight to you. That can be done here.
The list of opportunities is truly endless.
In fact, two contests have deadlines of today - so no need to wait until 2014.
One is Boulevard.
The other is the Tarrt Fiction Award.
Good Luck and Happy Writing!
