Looking back on the year that was 2013 part 1

2013 may be remembered for many things, but some events stand out more than others. The first month of 2013 saw President Barack Obama be sworn in for his second term in the White House. Obama fought a lengthy political battle with republican challenger Mitt Romney. The polls depending on which one you looked at had him either losing or neck and neck with the Governor. When it was all said and done, The President took the lead in electoral votes winning with 126 more than Romney.

At The President’s Inaugural Ball, all eyes were on the First Lady. She commanded the attention of the entire world the first part of 2013 with not only her wardrobe including that red Jason Wu dress she wore while being serenaded by Jennifer Hudson but her bangs were also featured prominently in international publications.

The nation got one degree closer to Kevin Bacon in 2013. He starred in a new Fox series that literally kept us glued to the couch trying to figure out what’s going to happen next on the police drama “The Following”. The series follows the leader of a cult like organization that literally does whatever their psychotic leader wants including sacrificing themselves. Just when you think you have it all figured out, the show takes another turn and it always leaves you wanting more.

There are usually a few memorable moments that stand out at each Superbowl. I don’t think people will soon forget about the lights going out at the Superdome. The game was delayed for about 34 minutes as technicians and engineers scrambled to restore power to nearly have of the venue. It was later determined that equipment installed in the newly renovated Superdome to protect electrical systems wasn’t properly configured.

After months of rest and recuperation from a life threatening illness called myelodysplastic, “GMA” anchor Robin Roberts returned to work in early 2013. She credits the millions of well wishes and prayers from “GMA” viewers. In addition to the prayers, she also had her significant other, Amber helping her as well. In Later December the women with brightest smile on daytime television publically recognized her longtime girlfriend Amber Laign in a Facebook posting to her ABC News colleagues.
