A Daily Word from the Word for Monday, July 14, 2014

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” – Hebrews 12:2

The word “looking” comes from the Greek word aphorao (pr. af-or-ah-o) meaning “to consider attentively.” It is derived from the Greek root word apo meaning “off, to look away.” This term is also synonymous with the Greek word horao, which means “to stare” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance).

So how can it make sense to both “consider attentively” and also to “look away?” When we look to Jesus, we are to behold Him in a way that we cast down all distractions. Jesus is saying “look to Me, with your undivided attention, purposefully looking away and putting off everything else that will serve as a distraction, and I will make a way because I am the Way, The Truth, and The Life” (John 14:6).

It is possible to look at something but also not look away or put off other things, which causes one to not truly be focused on one thing. Think about when you are watching television and responding to emails at the same time; or watching your kids play and talking to a friend. Are you truly focusing on one thing, giving it your undivided attention? Clearly not. To give something or someone your undivided attention and to really focus on that one thing or person, you must make a conscious decision to “put off” and “look away” from everything else.

Jesus loves us so much, and died for us, that He has given us the victory in everything through His sustaining Power and Hope, which is in Him. He tells us that if we look to Him- really look at Him, and focus on Him, fixing our eyes upon Him (eyes being our entire focus, including our mind), then every circumstance and situation in our lives must bow to The King of kings and The Lord of lords!

Webster’s Dictionary defines “fixed” as “not subject to change or fluctuation, firmly set in the mind, having a final or crystallized form or character.” How amazing is this! Jesus was so fixed on The Father, that He was able to “endure the cross!” He did this for you and for me. So take your focus off of your problems. Stop focusing on your lack of money, your kids who can’t seem to get it together, your spouse who seems disengaged from you and your marriage, your job that no longer seems fulfilling, your boss or co-worker who seems to have a problem with you, the unfulfillment and discontentment in yourself and your life.

Put these things off! Look away from them, and focus your full attention- fix your stare on Jesus, Who made a way out of no way for you and for me. Focus on Jesus, who is the author and the finisher of our faith! He is the Great I Am! The Beginning and the End! He is the one who defeated the enemy once and for all! He even went down to hell on his way up to Heaven and snatched the keys out that that dirty devil’s hands! The Savior took captivity captive and set the captives free! It is this Jesus that we serve! And He is far bigger than any circumstance or situation in your life. You need to just focus on Him, which causes everything else to fade away.

Father, thank you for your Word. Thank you, that You gave us your Beloved, Your One and Only Begotten Son- Jesus, who willingly and obediently left His place in Heaven and stepped down for us, and who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is now set down at Your Mighty Right Hand! Jesus is the Author and the Finisher of our faith! And we look to you, Mighty God, that we may be complete. So Father, right now in the Beautiful Name of Jesus, we come into agreement with your Word concerning our situation and our circumstances, and we command them to bow to Blood of The Lamb. We call forth the Blood, and by its Authority, we command every ungodly thing in our lives to die and we command every inroad back be destroyed that there are no hindrances and distractions in our lives. We decree and declare that we walk in the plan and the purpose that You have spoken into our lives, and that our expected end- is complete in You. Thank you, Holy Father. We call these unholy things no more in our lives, and we call it done in the Mighty Name of Jesus. Amen and Amen!

Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to maintain your gaze on Jesus. Choose to put off every distraction and problem, and choose to fix your mind and focus on The King of kings and Lord of lords without wavering. Refuse to focus on problems, situations, and circumstances that are contrary to God’s Will, plan, and purpose for you. Rebuke, bind, and cast down, in the Name of Jesus, every distraction that attempts to rise up. Take authority, in the Name of Jesus, over every opposing thing that comes to triumph. And continue to fight the good fight of being singularly focused on Christ; for God, your Laser Vision, has already given you the victory!

If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
