Look good to feel good: Beauty and health advice courtesy of Lolë (Photos)

In a room encircled with racks of Lolë active wear, nutritionist Willow Jarosh from Manhattan based CJ Nutrition is sharing some important diet advice. Jaroush explains the direct effect of foods on skin— delving into the lesser known side effects of eating on outer appearance, beyond those related to weight gain.

While it’s not news that food choices have a direct impact on skin and hair, this fact is not what usually motivates most people to adjust their diets. “What you eat is what you are,” so when cutting back on portions, preserving nutritional balance makes a world of difference.

For example, most people have heard that Beta Carotene, a nutrient rich in bright orange vegetables such as carrots and pumpkin, is great for eyes. But few people know that Beta Carotene also encourages cell turn over-- which makes it like a natural skin exfoliant. People who consume foods that include copious amounts of Beta Carotene also tend to have naturally glowing skin. According to a study at the University of Bristol in England, the golden glow imparted by a Beta Carotene rich diet was perceived to be more attractive than the bronze coloring resulting from tanning in sunlight.

Other nutrients that affect outer appearance directly are vitamin C and Omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3’s, found in fish and certain seeds, like walnuts, keep cells plump and lower inflammation. Vitamin C plays a key role in collagen production. Both are important for firm skin and silky hair.

The other advice to keep New Year’s health resolutions intact well past February, courtesy of the experts at Lolë is more simple: “Look Good to Feel Good.” One of Lolë’s core beliefs is that if you love your gym clothes, you are far more motivated to exercise. Lolë adheres to this philosophy by creating situations for women to get dressed, and work out in settings where good intentions can be shared. Lolë recently launched their 2013 White Yoga Session Tour lead by Yogi Elena Brower on January 24th, with their first US stop in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Lolë offers a diverse range of active wear, including chic street to gym pieces, and convertible items fit for busy New York City lifestyles and jet-setting career girls. Learn more about Lolë on their website.
