Lonnie Johnson, 36, of Cleveland, was indicted on charges of felonious assault, assault, obstructing official business, failure to comply with order or signal of a police officer, carrying concealed weapons, drug possession, and tampering with evidence.
Prosecutors say on November 9, 2009, a police officer observed Lonnie Johnson riding his bicycle on W. 25th Street near Lorain Avenue, weaving through traffic and nearly causing an accident.
The officer ordered him to pull over. Lonnie Johnson attempted to flee, fell from his bicycle, and continued to flee on foot. When the officer attempted to arrest him, Lonnie Johnson fought and lunged at the officer with a knife.
Lonnie Johnson was in possession of drugs including PCP, cocaine and marijuana. During his apprehension, he made several attempts to discard or destroy the drugs.
Lonnie Johnson’s trial is scheduled for 9:00 am in front of Judge Michael Donnelly.
