Longwood Gardens lights up for the holidays (Photos)

Boasting a half a million twinkling holiday lights both indoors and out, along with illuminated fountains, and bright stars in the sky; Longwood Gardens is lit up for the holiday season. Philly loves their lights, and they’re decking the halls both indoors and outdoors to mark the holiday season; and Longwood Gardens, one of the world’s premier garden conservatories located only 30 miles outside of Philadelphia, is doing it bright and right.

Upon entering the magnificent gardens, you’ll be captivated by the 100-year old American elm tree that has been decorated for the first time with cascading lights falling right before your eyes; it’s as if you were standing right underneath a giant fireworks display. Golden-lit arches to the right and a vivid view of colorful trees glowing on the 1077 acres of gardens just ahead is just the beginning of this winter wonderland. The walk to the conservatory will captivate you with multi-colored lights on trees creating a holiday ambiance that illuminates the gardens in the dark. There are also all white, all red, all green, and completely blue lit trees. As you get to the top of the hill, you’ll see the pièce de résistance of the garden before entering the conservatory, the main fountain garden in the courtyard with a 12-foot fountain light. The courtyard boasts a white glistening path of winding lights that lead to the fountain, with two large and stately blue-lit Christmas trees setting the boundary and overlooking in the background.

There are bright and colorful lights and stars to guide you around every winding path; in fact, there are more lights than ever before with 15,000 additional lights this year twinkling away. Christmas at Longwood is a holiday tradition for many families here in the Philadelphia and Northeast region, as well as, all over the world. The gardens attract over 300,000 visitors every year for the holiday season alone. Light up your holiday at Longwood Gardens and experience a Longwood Christmas.

A Longwood Christmas will be on view from now through Jan. 6. Timed tickets are required. Don’t go without your ticket; tickets are limited and sell outs are likely. You can either buy tickets online directly from Longwood Gardens, or call 610-388-1000.
